Beijing Water Science and Technology Institute (BWSTI),formerly known as Beijing Hydraulic Research Institute(BHRI), founded in 1963, is a public research institution of the Beijing Water Authority with partially government funding. Business areas covered by water resources, water environment, ecology, disaster prevention and mitigation, engineering quality and environmental monitoring, water development strategy research and other water areas.

BWSTI has 8 research departments, 4 functional departments, 2 experimental bases and 3 innovation platform. The approved formal position is 139, the existing staff is nearly 200. 85% total staff is professional and technical person. Half of which have Senior professional titles , and postgraduate degree or above accounted for 45%. In BWSTI, 7 experts wined the special government allowance ,1 person wined the capital labor medal, 1 expert was selected as talents engineering national person,5 person were selected as talents engineering Beijing municipal person,3 person win 5151 person of the Ministry of Water Resources ,3 person win the outstanding contribution expert of Beijing, 27 person win special research project of Beijing nova, Beijing outstanding talent, Beijing outstanding young intellectuals, 19 people become registered engineer. all kinds of national industry.HWSTI has establish good relations of cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University and other domestic universities, research institutions and the United States, Germany, Britain, Israel and other countries. 

Since its establishment in 1963, our institute carried out scientific and technological innovation, public services and technical service with the adhered tenet that science and technology innovation is our driving force, to solve hot, difficult problems in the field of water witch restrict the social and economic development of the capital is our responsibility. We have completed more than 90 research projects including the state water project, the national science and technology support program, "863" project of the MOST, "948" project of the MWR , the capital of two four eight major innovation project, the major science and technology projects of the BMSTC , international cooperation projects and other major science and technology project, with total funds of more than 300000000 Yuan. Technical services has cover 27 provinces, city, autonomous region. BWSTI had wined 6 state-level awards, 56 provincial and ministerial level awards and bureau-level 62 awards. BWSTI has published 28 books, published more than 540 papers, obtained 75 patents. BWSTI has obtained 8 Qualification from the Ministry of Water Resources, Water and Soil Conservation Society of China, the National Development and Reform Commission and other institutions. With the obvious technique advantages in improvement of saline-alkali land, urban agriculture water-saving, comprehensive management of water environment of the river basin, the construction of artificial wetlands, stormwater management and utilization, reclaimed water utilization, BWSTI has solved a large number of water problem restricted the economic development of the capital. 

On September 2012, approved by the office of the Beijing Municipal Organization Committee, Beijing Hydraulic Research Institute officially changed its name to Beijing Water Science and Technology Institute. Standing at a new historical starting point, the mission of building Beijing a world city with Chinese characteristics has put forward higher requirements and challenges for the capital water science and technology. With the help of renamed opportunity, our institute will be devoted to building a first-class scientific research institute in the field of water science and technology in china. We will innovate development mode, adjust and optimize the specialty structure, increase the personnel training dynamics, according to the central mission of Beijing Water Authority, and to provide more comprehensive, in-depth scientific and technological support for water affairs.
